What is Data Science?
Data Science is simply a new term for an old profession.
People have been using numbers to keep a track of how things are going since numbers were invented. As you can imagine that was a long time ago and we have come along since then.
Hat tip to India for coming up with the concept of 0 as well. No hat tip for my old geography teacher for using said number with disturbing regularity on my test scores.
So you think you’ve got what it takes to be a data scientist? We do as well! Well, at least after taking these online courses we have reviewed for you.
If your interest in data science is serious then you can make a career out of it. You just need to develop the fundamental skills, get some knowledge of the basics, and start writing your first algorithm!
In this article, we will take a look at what types of data science courses are available online.

Online courses range from short classes that you can complete in an evening to a fulllength online degree that you complete over the course of a year.
We have reviewed courses from Udemy, Coursera, edX, Pluralsight and many more

• What is R and what you can do with it.
• R fundamentals and syntax.
• R data structures.
• Create using R.

Have you ever felt that excitement that comes from knowing different cultures?

See how people from other places arrange their lives or have their own traditions?

I bet you thanked every time you got in touch with another culture to have a language in common to communicate with.
You can have the same excitement working in data science. Data scientists can use different programming languages, and inevitably working in teams can be a bit chaotic. Apart from organizing yourselves and decide on a language you can all write, you can also learn the language most of the data scientists are using right now.
R is being used in every field.
In this course, you’ll learn all about R, its syntax and you’ll be able to run your first data analysis with R. After learning about variables and basic operations, you can start to handle more complex data structures.
This is not an intense course, but there are a lot of chances to practice on everything. After each of the video explanations, there is a little project or quiz to strengthen your skills. You’ll solve real problems and receive instant feedback.

If you want to ace your next job interview as a data scientist, you need to step up your game!
In this Coursera course, you will learn how to use the data structures you can find in Python, to develop your skills in data analysis.

This course actually follows the structure of a textbook you can find here for free. Being that this the second step of a larger specialization, it will start from chapter 6. But no worries, if you followed the beginner courses in this guide, you won’t need to do anything to catch up.
The first week of the course will reinforce some of the basics of programming. And on the second week, you’ll start actually using Python and getting familiar with it. If you already are, you might want to skip these first two and get to the third week straightaway. In fact, from the third week on it’s all about writing your first program that analyzes data. Each week is about a different data structure to help you build up your skills.
As mentioned earlier, this course is part of a structured specialization. If after this taste you feel like you want to continue with the same teacher and same methods, you can enrol for the whole Python for Everybody Specialization. At the end of it, you will be an expert on Python programming.

• LEVEL: For intermediate students who need to learn more about Python.
• DURATION: 11 hours divided in 7 weeks.
• COST: Free with the audit option, or £40 per month.

If you want to get a very solid understanding of Data Science to the point where you could become a Data Scientist then you will need to invest some more time and money in a longer course.
The longer online programmes and degrees have the structure and interactivity required to build the necessary skills and frameworks required to successfully deliver data projects.
If you want to make a career out of your interest in data science, but you don’t know where to start, then this Eduonix course, or better, courses, is for you.
Yes, because this is actually a Path. Some of the best data science courses have been chosen to build up a wellconstructed path. You can find out more about Eduonix Paths in our full Eduonix review.
The structure is almost like going to school...but better! It starts with a book, then some theory lessons, and finally a project to develop with your newly acquired skills.
These are the steps to follow:

Ebook on the basics

Lesson on Python

Finance class

Data science at work

Your own project

Certificate
Let’s see what they’re about
The first step is all about what you need to know when starting this new adventure. It is a complete overview of what data science is and what data scientists do. From the role of data science in major fields to its application in everyday life. You’ll get also an overview of the tools you’ll learn to use in the following steps.
This is where the action starts!

You should know by now what data science is about. So you know a great part of your future work will be programming. This is the course to start to know about programming languages. And to actually program. In this course, you will learn how Python programming works and put it into practice with three final projects.
Talking about a subject in the abstract is always different than actually see it applied to reallife problems. That’s why the third step of this Path is useful.
You’ll get an insight into how data science is used in finance. Financial industries in this field have lots of data to analyze and always need professionals to get the most out of them. This course gives you an understanding of what data analysis is, how it works, and how it can be applied.
The last step goes deeper into what you need to kickstart your new career in data science. This course covers all aspects of data science, going into more details about data analysis and data visualization.
You’ll dive deeper into features like data visualization, regressions, and other terms that might not make sense to you now, but will after you finish this step.
Last, but not least, there will be a project to develop at the end of this path. It will include everything you’ve learned through the previous steps. It will be a chance to put it all into practice.

And the only way to have the certificate to show you have the right skills to be a data scientist!

Behind a great robot, there is a great data scientist!
Isn’t it how the old saying goes?
One of the branches of data science is machine learning. It’s essentially a learning program for systems. You are actually running things on the system to create a memory of its own.
Artificial intelligence might not be your main interest, but as a data scientist, you will have to know how machine learning works.
This Udemy course will teach you the basics and beyond.
You’ll learn how to prepare your data when to use a regression rather than a classification. Concepts like clustering, association and reinforcement learning will not be just empty terms for you anymore.
All the videos are structured to be clear to everyone and let you understand the purpose of machine learning and of all its features. At the end of each explanation, there is the chance to exercise on the topic with little quizzes, projects or other homework, working with reallife datasets.
This will definitely let you gain more confidence in what you are learning and build up your skills as a data scientist.

What is Data Science?
"Data science is a multidisciplinary blend of data inference, algorithm development, and technology in order to solve analytically complex problems." Data Jobs
Data Science is an umbrella term for many different skills and business areas.
That means that there a lot of courses online offering to teach you how to become a Data Scientist. Not all of them are to be trusted.

Some are very difficult, some are just confusing and some are truly excellent.
Theoretical vs Practical Data Science courses?
The best online data science courses offer practical skills with reallife data sets. The skills you will learn on your journey will have no benefit unless you can apply them to solving problems.
You will only really become a fullfledged data scientist when you can solve realworld problems.
For most of you, this will mean solving problems for companies in return for a salary.
The demand for data literature jobs and data scientists in particular has grown rapidly in recent yars and shows no sign of stopping. IBM recently predicted that there will be a 30% increase in the amount of data scientists jobs over the next two years.
